Malaysia`s Kuala Lumpur lies in the middle of the west of the country close to the coast. Sitting between the Klang and Gombek rivers the city is also at the epicentre of a large modern transport network so it is easy to access and to use as a base.

• Kuala Lumpur Bird Park — the Bird Park can be found in the beautiful Lake Garden. The park is considered to be the biggest free-flight aviary in the world. Visitors here can see over 3,000 birds from over 200 species from all over the globe.
• Kuala Lumpur Tower — also known as the KL Tower and the Menara Kuala Lumpur this communications tower was built in 1995. Its antenna makes it the fifth largest tower in the world. Visitors can enjoy fantastic views at the top of the tower in the revolving restaurant.
• Lake Gardens — the beautiful Lake Gardens cover 60 hectares and are arranged around a lovely lake. Visitors can enjoy boat trips and can also visit the National Monument, the Bird Park, the Butterfly House and Orchid and Hibiscus Gardens.
• Batu caves — the caves lie to the north of the city in a limestone hill. Officially discovered by the naturalist William Hornaday in the 1870s the site holds many cave temples including the famous Temple/Cathedral cave which is home to various Hindu shrines and to the Thaipusam yearly celebrations.

Shopping and night-life

Kuala Lumpur has some great shopping — in both large malls and small shops. Try Petaling Street in Chinatown or Bukit Bintang to buy electronics and clothes. Many visitors also enjoy a visit to the night markets (Pasar Malams) for local shopping.

There are various areas with a lively nightlife — these include Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Bukit Bintang, and Bangsar Baru and Sri Hartamas. Eating out is never a problem as there are all kinds of cuisine on offer.

Getting around

Over 40 international airlines serve Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) located at Sepang. A high-speed train connects to the city in under half an hour. The internal transport network of the city is efficient — options include the LRT light rail system and taxis.
