Leadership: Recognize the Need to Transition & Unchecked Emotion-Unsuccessful Leadership

26 Apr 2009

Leadership, Unsuccessful Leadership, Personal Development, Unchecked Emotion, John C Maxwell, Maxwell Leadership Bible, Christian Living, Management, Transition Problem, Managing People, Absalom, complacency, maverick, catalystLeadership, Unsuccessful Leadership, Personal Development, Unchecked Emotion, John C Maxwell, Maxwell Leadership Bible, Christian Living, Management, Transition Problem, Managing People, Absalom, complacency, maverick, catalyst ~The ultimate measure of leaders is not why they stand in moments of comfort and convenience, but where they stand in times of challenge and controversy~

Then it was, when the wall was built and I had hung the doors, when the gatekeepers, the singers, and the Levites had been appointed, that I gave the charge of Jerusalem to my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the leader of the citadel, for he was a faithful man and feared God more than many. ~Nehemiah 7:1-2

Two emotions usually follow a great achievement: a sign of relief and celebration and a sense of . . . now what? The period after a success can become a dangerous time. Sometimes we feel tempted toward complacency, especially if we lack another goal. We can become satisfied and let down our guard. Momentum leaks.

The moment of victory is a crucial time for any organization. A transitional problem occurs when the leader does not know how to grow with the organization. Nehemiah’s life illustrates the difference between a catalyst and a consolidator. Read the rest of this entry »

Because I couldn’t unplug the toilet with a plunger, I had to dismantle the entire fixture, no small feat for a non- plumber. Jammed inside the drain was a purple rubber dinosaur, which belonged to my five-year-old son.

I painstakingly got all the toilet parts together again, the tank filled, and I flushed it. However, it didn’t work much better than before! As I pondered what to do next, my son walked into the bathroom. I pointed to the purple dinosaur I had just dislodged and told him that the toilet still wasn’t working. SEO: Finding Balance Between SEO and Non-SEO Traffic Generation

17 Apr 2009

search engine optimization, SEO, world's business, business marketing, Internet Marketing, Web Traffic, Google, Search Engine Marketing, Online Investment, Business Communication You might think, from all the buzz about search engine optimization - SEO - that it offers a cure for all the world’s business ills. Somehow, SEO has been propelled from the backwaters of Internet geekdom into the forefront of modern business marketing. For example, if Google’s own search results are any indication, the interest in SEO yields almost 50% of the interest in general advertising. That level of interest seems way out of proportion to the realities of business advertising.

So Why All The Hubbub?

The excitement seems to be around the notion that SEO means “free advertising”, that it means, if you do it right, millions of people will be clicking through to your site willy-nilly having found you on some search engine and then will immediately do business with you. And behind all that excitement are thousands of overnight SEO “experts” that, variously, all claim to … (pick one): Read the rest of this entry »

Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Content Relevancy and Link Popularity Explained

16 Apr 2009

content-relevancy, internet-marketing, link-popularity, online-marketing, pagerank, search-engine-optimization, seo, seo-explained, seo-rank, web-traffic How does a web page get ranked #1 on Google? There is no doubt that the methods of the 1990s no longer work - and most definitely, not since Google went public in 2004.Back then, the content of your website’s pages was the major factor. Today, however, having links on the Internet that point back to your website is another important criteria, which will require that you involve yourself in the Internet community.

The latter point is very interesting to consider. How do you involve yourself in the Internet community? What does this have to do with search engine optimization (SEO)? Actually, involving yourself in the Internet community doesn’t directly have anything to do with SEO; however, many people seem to pigeon hole anything related to the search engines into SEO. Therefore, we will need to define the various acronyms that are used in the Internet industry.

Health: Foods That Fight Cancer

15 Apr 2009

Health, Fight Cancer, Food, cancer-fighting nutrients,Indole-3-carbinol ,vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, cabbage, turnips, bok choy , green vege, cruciferous, breast cancer, prostate cancerOver the years, various studies have suggested that people who regularly consume cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, cabbage, turnips, bok choy, etc.) have lower rates of many cancers, including breast and prostate cancer. Researchers have investigated cruciferous vegetables in an attempt to identify the active agent(s) that account for this cancer-protective effect. As it turns out, cruciferous vegetables are unique in that they contain compounds called sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol. Both of these natural agents enhance the body’s ability to detoxify cancer-causing chemicals, but indole-3-carbinol in particular exhibits other impressive anti-cancer effects that should be recognized.
