GoDaddy.com Demands non-refundable USD$199 Reactivation Fee on pjlighthouse.com

godaddy-sucks, godaddy.com, non-refundable,usd199,suspended domain,hosting, refund my moneyIf you wondered how come my site was down for the past 2 weeks, here’s actually what happen.. my domain was suspended by GoDaddy.com and was demanded to pay USD$199 in order to activate back my domain just because of some auto-alert e-mails that was sent out from a WordPress plug-in that I installed. It’s seems really unfair because they could have inform me to de-activate the plug-in first before suspending my domain, and after that ask me to pay them $199 or choose to change my domian to another hosting company. Check out what the mails sent by them when I requested for them to reduce or re-consider charging the so called exorbitant administrative fee $199 fees that they says in their T&C as “reasonableThe first mail I got when I ask then why was my domain suspended… Email replies by GoDaddy:

====================================================

Dear Sir/Madam, The pjlighthouse.com domain name has been suspended for endangering the connectivity of Go Daddy’s network. Go Daddy’s Abuse Department was recently alerted by the Network Administrators of our mail servers, that the pjlighthouse.com domain name was being used in conjunction with an email mailing. The bounce messages and return messages to this mailing have been responsible for abusive levels of traffic to the Go Daddy mail servers. This is a violation of Go Daddy’s Terms of Service, as a result, the pjlighthouse.com domain name was suspended. At this point you have two options:

—– Option #1: Reactivate your domain name. If you wish to reactivate your domain name you must reply to this message with the following: 1. A statement that you will not utilize Go Daddy’s email service in this manner. 2. Authorization for GoDaddy.com to charge a non-refundable $199 reactivation fee to the credit card on file for your account. You may want to log into your Go Daddy account and confirm that the card on file is valid and has not expired. Please understand that if the problem persists, after your domain name has been reactivated the first time, your domain name will be immediately canceled.

—— Option#2: Transfer your domain name to another registrar. If the solution outlined above is not agreeable to you or you are unable to abide by these terms you will have to transfer your domain name to another registrar. If you choose to transfer your domain name to another registrar, we can reactivate the domain name in order to allow you to proceed with your transfer. You will need to provide the following in your reply:

1. A statement that you will initiate the transfer of your domain name to a new registrar within the next 24 hours.

2. Authorization for GoDaddy.com to charge a non-refundable $75 administration fee to the credit card on file for your account. Again, you may want to log into your Go Daddy account and confirm that the card on file is valid and has not expired.

—– Please let us know which option you intend to take. If you would like to discuss this situation via telephone you can call Go Daddy’s Spam And Abuse Department at 480-624-2505.

and I replied saying to ask them to check in the system as I don’t do any email spamming and do investigation before simply suspending my domain.. and I got another reply saying…

====================================================

Dear Meng, If the solutions outlined in our previous message are not agreeable to you or you are unable to abide by these terms you will have to transfer your domain name to another registrar.

Please let us know which option you intend to take.

still no answers regarding the SPAM emails, so I asked them again the details on the email SPAM issue..and they replied again..

=====================================================

From our previous email you may see, “It is possible that a third party was able to gain access to your website, without your knowledge, in order to upload these files and initiate this abusive action. This does not change that fact that it is your responsibility to ensure that your website is secure from this type of exploitation. Due to the nature of the compromise and due to the fact that the damage has already been done we are only able to present the following two options to resolve the situation…”

Also in our previous message you may have noticed as part of option 1 that it states, “Please understand that if the problem persists, after your domain name has been reactivated the first time, your domain name will be immediately canceled.” Again this is because this type of action, whether it is intentional or not, is extremely dangerous to our network and affects other customers as well. In regards to any cancelation/refund of products/services you would have to contact our Support or Billing departments to work that out. Every Go Daddy customer that has a domain name suspended for violating Go Daddy’s Policies must choose one of the previously presented options if they wish to resolve the situation.

These options are not negotiable. The fees cannot be reduced or waived. We appreciate your cooperation and willingness to address this issue. Please let us know what course of action you choose to take. If you wish to discuss this situation via telephone Go Daddy’s Abuse Department can be reached at 480-624-2505. =======================================================

seems like they don’t get what I mean, so I shoot another letter to them…

Can u please help answer these question?1. Can u provide me the those sample spam emails that you reported, the date, time, frequency and contents sent as prove of what your system captured?

2. Can I have the contact our Support or Billing departments phone number / email?

3. Can u show me where in your terms and condition mentioned that : –
i. These options are not negotiable. The fees cannot be reduced or waived.
ii. Authorization for GoDaddy.com to charge a non-refundable $199 reactivation fee to the credit card on file for your account

I can’t seems to find this rates that you mentioned in your site. Please enlighten me so that I would know that this charges are not simply charged on to me without my agreement.<<

4. Can I have Bob Persons email because I would like to write an email to appeal to him on this matter and to ask to look into this matter because I don’t think he should treat his customers in this matter of simply charging users at high exorbitant fees without catching the culprit who is behind this kind of threats and also hidden fees that customers doesn’t know even though it’s caused by other competitors.
Finally they replied with some answers…

It’s only then I knew what was the real problem, It was the emails sent out by the WordPress plug-in… so I replied.. saying that I don’t think sending email alert to my own email is consider as spam does it? I think what they could have done is to inform me of such email had been sent out so I can turn it off the e-mail notification instead of them just suspending my domain without any notice given and asking me to pay money to re-activate back my account.
and last reply from them ignoring my request to un-suspend my domain failed..

Dear Sir/Madam,
Every Go Daddy customer that has a web hosting account suspended for violating Go Daddy’s Policies must choose one of these options if they wish to resolve the situation. These options are not negotiable. The fees cannot be reduced or waived.
Your reactivation options for the pjlighthouse.com domain name remain unchanged

In the end I was force to pay goDaddy the USD$199 to re-activate back my domain and they only activated back my domain and hosting after 3 days!!! really unhappy the way how they handle this case.. found out there were many other cases such as these where GoDaddy.com hold customer on ransom to pay the admin fees .. check out one of the site dedicated to such cases 😛
www.Nodaddy.com

I also wrote to Bob Persons about this and let’s see if he response or not..

If you want to email Bob, u can send it to : president@godaddy.com

Well, from this experience , learn that u got to be really careful if you are hosting on GoDaddy.com because they can suspend your domain and ask for non-refundable $199 reactivation fee that was never mentioned clearly in their T&C even though you are the victim. 🙁 What do you think, Is this fair??
