Story so far…
On the freighter, Keamy checks in with Lapidus and asks if he’s ready. Lapidus says he’ll be ready. Keamy warns him not to be late. Lapidus continues below where he runs into Regina, who is standing guard outside sick bay, where Sayid and Desmond are. Regina is acting strange, and Lapidus notices the book she’s reading is upside down. Lapidus brings Sayid and Desmond food cans of lima beans. Sayid asks if Lapidus has had contact with their friends, and Lapidus says no, something must have happened to their phone.
At the beach camp, Jin wants to talk about baby names but Sun thinks it’s bad luck. Jin is hoping for a girl and wants to name her Ji Yeon, but Sun teases him and says it’s going to be a boy. However, Sun is worried since Sayid and Desmond haven’t returned yet or contacted them. She makes Jin a promise they get off the island first and then they can pick a name.
Back to Sun in her Seoul apartment packing. She feels a sharp pain and winces. She calls emergency services, telling them she’s pregnant and she thinks something is wrong. Then we see that Sun is nine months pregnant! We are in the future, and Sun is the latest member of the Oceanic Six.
Jin runs into a Seoul toy store, frantic, and asks for a stuffed panda bear. He doesn’t have time he has to get to the maternity ward. He doesn’t even know if it’s a boy or a girl yet. He pays for the panda and runs out.
Back to the beach camp as Jack and Kate return. Kate explains that Charlotte knocked her out, and Sun becomes concerned. She asks if Faraday and Charlotte are really there to rescue them. Kate doesn’t think so. Sun confronts Faraday and asks point blank if they are there to rescue them. Faraday is evasive and says it really isn’t his call to make. Sun asks whose call is it, but Faraday won’t respond. That’s all the answer Sun needs, and she makes up her mind. She tells Jin to get supplies together and not tell anyone. They’re going to Locke’s camp.
At the hospital as Sun is wheeled in. A nurse tries to remove her wedding ring, and Sun tells her to stop. The nurse explains it’s for the swelling, but Sun is adamant. The doctor comes in and tells Sun the baby is in distress. Sun asks them to get Jin, and the doctor assures her they’re trying to reach him. Jin is on a busy Seoul street and flags down a taxi. He puts the stuffed panda inside and gets a call on his cell phone. But he is jostled by a passerby and drops the phone. Before he can pick it up a guy on a moped runs over the phone and crushes it. Then someone else rushes by Jin and gets in his taxi. The cab speeds off and Jin realizes the panda is still inside. Frustrated, he runs back into the toy shop and buys another panda.
Back to the beach as Juliet catches Sun going through her stuff. Sun asks for another bottle of the prenatal vitamins. Juliet asks about the last bottle she gave Sun there should be twenty left. Sun doesn’t want to discuss it, and Juliet realizes Sun is planning to go somewhere. Sun tells her they’re going to Locke’s camp. Juliet is shocked. She reminds Sun that women who get pregnant on the island die. Sun points out that Claire’s baby is fine, and she feels fine. All she has is Juliet’s stories that she’ll die, and she doesn’t trust Juliet. Sun is going to do what’s best for her and for her baby.
On the freighter, Sayid and Desmond are slipped a note that reads, “Don’t trust the captain.” The doctor comes in and tells them that the Captain would now like to talk to them. As he leads them up, Sayid notices the helicopter is gone and asks where Lapidus went. The doctor doesn’t know. Desmond watches as Regina steps up over the railing with a piece of heavy metal chain wrapped around herself and jumps overboard! They scramble to do something, but a voice bellows out for them to stop. They look up and see the captain standing on the bridge. He tells them she’s gone and orders everyone back to their posts.
At the beach camp, Kate gives Sun a hand-drawn map to the barracks. Before they can leave, Juliet steps up and says they aren’t going anywhere. She asks Sun to translate for Jin, but Sun refuses. However, Jin knows enough English by this point to understand what Juliet says. Juliet tells him Sun is sick, that if she doesn’t get off the island in three weeks she will die.
Jin becomes alarmed, but Sun tells him to ignore her. Jin tells Juliet that where Sun goes, he goes. They walk off. Juliet is desperate and shouts out that Sun had an affair. Jin stops, and Juliet tells him Sun was with another man. She thought the baby was his. Sun slaps Juliet. Hard. That’s enough to convince Jin it’s the truth and he leaves, walking back to camp. Sun is devastated.
Back on the freighter, Sayid and Desmond meet Captain Gault. Sayid asks why he didn’t do anything to save Regina. Gault says he didn’t want to lose anymore crew. He thinks the crew is experiencing a heightened form of cabin fever because of their proximity to the island. Sayid asks why don’t they just turn around. Gault says they’ve tried but someone sabotaged their engines. He’s been working around the clock to repair them. Once it’s done, Gault’s orders are to move to safer waters. Sayid asks whom he gets his orders from, and Gault tells him Charles Widmore.
Desmond is shocked it’s Charles Widmore’s boat. Gault shows them the black box recovered from flight 815 on the bottom of the ocean. Gault tells them it took a considerable about of Widmore’s resources to procure it. The wreckage was obviously staged, and Gault asks who could arrange the resources and manpower to pull off a feat like that. Who could fake the recovery of a plane crash? Where does one find 324 dead bodies? That is just one reason why they want Benjamin Linus.
At the beach camp, Juliet tells Sun she had to stop her from going any way she could. She also wants to get off the island. More than anything. She’s not sure if the boat is their answer but it’s something. She needs to get home, and so does Sun. In about three weeks, Sun will be in a constant state of nausea. A week after that, she’ll experience shortness of breath. Then in another week she’ll slip into a coma and die. And once Sun’s heart stops beating, so does the baby’s. Sun is Juliet’s patient, and that’s why she had to stop her. If Sun goes to Locke’s camp, Sun will die and the baby will never be born. At a delivery room where the doctor tells Sun they have to do a C-section. Sun says no, they need to wait for Jin. They doctor tells her he is not there, that they have no choice. Suddenly the baby crowns, and the doctor tells Sun to push. Sun cries out in pain and pushes. Her baby is born, and the doctor places it in Sun’s arms. It’s a little girl, just like Jin wanted. Sun begins to cry.
Back to the freighter as the doctor leads Sayid and Desmond to their new quarters. However, there’s still a dried blood stain on the wall. The doctor notices a deckhand down the corridor and orders him to mop it up. As the man comes into the light, we see it’s Michael! The doctor introduces him as Kevin Johnson. Sayid stares at him hard but doesn’t betray his cover. At the beach camp, Jin returns to his tent. Jin tells Sun he understands who he used to be, a man who withheld his affections, who cared more about his job than her. So he understands whatever Sun did was a reaction to that man, and he forgives her. Sun cries and tells Jin she loves him. Jin says he loves her, too. He tells her he’ll go to Locke’s camp with her, but Sun says she doesn’t want to go. Juliet was very convincing. They have to get off the island no matter what it takes. Jin promises to protect her and the baby, but he asks one last thing. Is the baby his? Sun says yes, it’s his. She hugs him and confesses that she thought she lost him. Jin tells her she will never lose him.
Back to a Seoul hospital as Jin rushes down a hallway. He finds a Chinese security agent guarding a room and asks to speak to the Ambassador. He comes out, and Jin presents the panda as a symbol of Mr. Paik’s eagerness to do business with the great country of China. The Ambassador accepts the gift and says he will call Mr. Paik to set up a meeting. As Jin heads out, a nurse asks him why he’s leaving. Jin says it wasn’t his baby he’s only been married two months. Suddenly we realize Jin wasn’t rushing to see Sun. His story was different from Sun’s. It wasn’t a flash-forward it was a flashback.
Back to Sun’s flash-forward. She’s in her apartment as the doorbell rings. It’s Hurley, and Sun can’t believe he actually came. Hurley asks to see the baby, and Sun lets him hold her. Hurley says she looks just like Jin. They leave and go to a graveyard. But it’s not any grave they’re paying their respects to it’s Jin’s. Sun holds the baby up to the gravestone and says the delivery was hard on her. She wished he could’ve been there. She named the baby Ji Yeon like he wanted. Sun starts crying and says she misses him so much. And we realize that whatever happened between the island and Sun’s future, Jin isn’t in it.
