Creative touch to fundraising
HOPE worldwide Kuala Lumpur has added a creative twist to its fund-raising activities with the launch of Scratch and Derma where one donates the amount scratched on a card.
The launch of the new car at 1 Utama`s new wing was officiated by deputy international trade and industry minister Ng Lip Yong.
To start the ball rolling, Ng donated RM10,000 and advised young people to equip themselves with knowledge to bring themselves forward.
The objective of Scratch and Derma is to raise RM60,000 to support various ongoing programmes of Hope worldwide Kuala Lumpur, to build awareness towards its programmes as well as to educate the public on the benefits of being a volunteer.
Some 300 volunteers, better known as Friends of Hope worldwide, organised the unique charity event.
The launch was made even more exciting with a performance by the Aseana Percussion Unit, a percussion band that has represented Malaysia at the Jarasum Jazz Festival in South Korea, Rainforest World Music Festival in Sarawak and the Singapore Arts Festival.
Underprivileged children sponsored by Hope worldwide Kuala Lumpur had an opportunity to perform with the musicians before receiving goodie bags sponsored by Parkson Corporation Sdn Bhd.
Other corporate sponsors are Nando`s Chickenland Sdn Bhd and T. A. S. Leisure Sdn Bhd.
Hope worldwide is an international non-profit, non-religious organisation with over 150 programmes, spanning six continents and 100 nations with a focus on five areas Children, Education, Senior Citizens and Volunteerism.
In Malaysia, it focuses on four ongoing programmes that include free clinics for the underprivileged in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, food distribution programme to hardcore poor patients and their families, school sponsorship programme and activity learning programme for 30 selected children.
Its expenditure stands at RM37,000 per month and they depend entirely on public donations.
