Re-create the Show Desktop icon

29 Aug 2006

Missing desktop icon on Quick Launch toolbar? here’s how to re-create it on ur PC :)
The Show Desktop icon is not an ordinary program shortcut. If the icon is deleted, the procedure for re-creating the icon is not obvious. To manually re-create the Show Desktop icon, follow these steps:

1. Click Start , click Run, type notepad, and then click OK.
2. In Notepad, type the following text on individual lines:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop
3. On the File menu, click Save As, and then save the file to your desktop as Show Desktop.scf.Note Notepad might automatically append a .txt extension to the file name. Remove this extension if present. The file name should be Show Desktop.scf.

The file must now be moved to the correct folder in the user profile to appear in the Quick Launch toolbar. To manually do this, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

1. Use the mouse to drag the Show Desktop.scf icon to the Quick Launch toolbar or another location where you want the shortcut to appear.
2. Click Move Here.

Method 2

1. Use Windows Explorer to locate the following folders:Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98
Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 2000, and Microsoft Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Note Username refers to the account name where you want to put the icon.

2. Use the mouse to drag the Show Desktop.scf file to the Quick Launch folder.
3. Click Move Here.

Note By default, the Application Data folder for Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP is a hidden folder. You may have to unhide this folder by using the Advanced Settings in Internet Explorer. Click the Show hidden files and folders option.

In Steps a Leader

29 Aug 2006

Then David said to Abigail: “Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me! And blessed is your advice and blessed are you, because you have kept me this day from coming to bloodshed and from avenging myself with my own hand.” 1 Samuel 25:32-33

After Samuel’s death, David moved to the Wilderness of Paran. There he encountered shepherds tending the flocks of the wealthy Nabal - an insolent, rude, and contentious man who happened to be married to a beautiful, intelligent, and intuitive woman named Abigail.

When Nabal offended David, Abigail very quickly took steps to defuse a volatile situation. She gathered a feast and went out to meet David. Abigail’s decisive actions calmed David and diverted him from avenging himself on Nabal’s whole household. Regardless of her husband’s inappropriate behavior, Abigail responded forthrightly and respectfully, and God Himself soon avenged David by removing Nabal from the equation

David knew a woman of God when he saw one, and after Nabal’s death he married Abigail. David valued Abigail’s strength and felt greatly attracted to this highly capable female leader.

Depression By Dr Gary R. Collins

26 Aug 2006

Interesting articles on depression that I got from a fren in my email today, quite a long one but it does help me to understand more about what depression is all about..

FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF HIS WIFE, A WELL-KNOWN SOUTHERN Baptist preacher named Vance Havner published a diary of his experiences as he walked “through the valley of the shadow of death.” Christian experience has three levels, Havner concluded. First there are “mountaintop days” when everything is going well and the world looks bright. But it is unrealistic to expect—as many people do—that we can spend life leaping from one mountain peak to another as if there were plains or valleys in between. “Ordinary days,” therefore, are those when we work at our usual tasks, neither elated nor depressed. Then, thirdly, there are the “dark days” when we trudge heavily through discouragement, despair, doubt and confusion. Sometimes these days string out into months or even years before we begin to experience a sense of relief and victory. When they persist, dark days are days of depression.

Depression (or melancholia, as it was once known) has been recognized as a common problem for more than 2,000 years. Recently, however, it has come so much into public attention that some are calling our era the “age of melancholy,” in contrast to the “age of anxiety” which followed World War II. Depression is something which everyone experiences in some degree and at different times in life. An article in the Journal of the American Medical Association once suggested that more human suffering has resulted from depression than from any other single disease affecting mankind. Depression has been considered as “by far the commonest psychiatric symptom,” and one which is found both as as temporary condition “in a normal person who has suffered a great personal disappointment” and as “the deep suicidal depression of a psychotic.”

DotA Revelation : DotA Tips & Tricks

22 Aug 2006

Dota What is DotA?

Defence of the Ancients (DotA) is one of the most popular custom maps for Warcraft III. Two versions were in wide circulation and use: DotA Allstars in English and CHAOS in Chinese. They differ greatly though based on the same framework of design. DotA is the most successful of a class of Warcraft III custom maps known as ‘Castle Defence’ in which - as the name suggests - the team of players defend a key structure while attempting to destroying that of the opponent. (Definition from Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dota )

Where can I download the latest DotA map?

Hope Springs Eternal

22 Aug 2006

There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 23:18 (NIV)

One of the greatest gifts leaders can give to those around them is hope. Never underestimate its power. Winston Churchill was once asked by a reporter what his country’s greatest weapon was against Hitler’s Nazi regime. Without pausing for a moment, he said: “It was what England’s greatest weapon has always been - hope.”

People will continue working, struggling, and trying if they have hope. Hope lifts people’s morale. It improves their self-image. It re-energizes them. It raises their expectations. It is the leader’s job to hold hope high, to instill it in the people he leads. Our people will have hope only if we give it to them. And we will have hope to give if we maintain the right attitude.

Marshall Foch was a hero in the Battle of Verdun. He observed, “There are no hopeless situations; there are only men who have grown hopeless about them.” Maintaining hope comes from seeing the potential in every situation and staying positive, despite the circumstances.

3 questions about God

22 Aug 2006

A young man who went overseas to study for quite a long time. When he
returned, he asked his parents to find him a religious scholar or any expert
who could answer his 3 Questions.

Finally, his parents were able to find a scholar.

Young man: Who are you? Can you answer my questions?

Scholar: I am one of God willing, I will be able to answer your questions.

Young man: Are you sure? A lot of Professors and experts were not able to
answer my questions.

Scholar: I will try my best, with the help of God .

Young Man: I have 3 questions:
1. Does God exist? If so, show me His shape.
2. What is fate?
3. If Devil was created from the fire, why at the end he will be thrown to
hell that is also created from fire. It certainly will not hurt him at all,
since Devil and the hell were created from fire. Did God not think of it
this far?

Funny Joke about Punctuation

An English professor wrote the words:

A woman without her man is nothing.

on the chalkboard and asked his students to puntuate it correctly.

All of the males in the class wrote:

“A woman, without her man, is nothing.”

All of the females in the class wrote:

A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Punctuation is Powerful !!!
